SD Breastfeeding Maternity Practices
CDC recently published the first ever report of Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care in South Dakota (mPINC). This report of 2007 data highlights the strengths and challenges common across South Dakota maternity settings and describes ways to better support breastfeedng in the state. Each participating facility received its facility-specific report in October 2008.
I Didn't Know My Weight Matters Encouraging women to maintain a healthy weight before and after pregnancy can optimize birth outcomes and reduce the woman’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes. DOH has launched a campaign to highlight weight gain recommendations during pregnancy. A packet of materials have been sent to health care providers. The packet includes weight gain recommendations based on pre-pregnancy BMI, forms to track weight gain during pregnancy, and literature to promote these recommendations. Learn more.
