Data from the 2008-2009 school year have been sent to participating schools. To view the entire report and summary brochure, click here. This site also has information and needed forms to submit data for the 2009-2010 school year. Height and weight data will be due to the Department of Health by June 15, 2010

National Archery in the Schools Program

archery targetsSouth Dakota Department of Game, Fish & Parks announces two National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) trainings to be held at the AmericInn in Chamberlain, SD on March 1-2, 2010 from 8:00-5:00 each day. The training is being offered free of charge.

The NASP training is open to 17 schools per day with a maximum class size of 25 participants per day. Schools will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Teachers need only to attend one of the two days of training to become eligible to receive the following equipment at no cost to the school:  10 compound right hand bows, 2 compound left hand bows, 5 dozen arrows, 5 targets, 1 arrow curtain, 1 repair kit and 1 bow rack. The cost of this equipment, if purchased at the retail level, is between $4,000-$5,000.

Safe Routes to School Funding

kids walking to schoolStart planning now to apply for Safe Routes to Schools funding. The application process requires a commitment of time from the city and school to create a detailed comprehensive plan. This plan must include educational programs about safety and health, encouragement activities to make the program fun, enforcement to change behaviors and an evaluation commitment to show your program works.  Applications are due March 25, 2010.  For more information, click here.
